Tiny little hole in the wall Korean grocery market; just like the ones I used to know~~~ rather, ones I knew growing up. As you pull into the parking lot, the place has a highly visible yellow sign that writes "kagopa" in Korean. In a very ugly Korean writing.... I don't mean to knock, but it looks like it was written by a child, and maybe it was! I can't think of a reason why a grown up shop owner would choose to use an ugly writing unless there's some sorta sentimental value behind it. Or maybe I'm overanalyzing it. Either way, it's ugly, but in a charming way. Inside is exactly like what a mom n pop Korean grocery would look like. Bunch of shelves with canned, bottled, packaged goods; freezers full of frozen goods, etc. I guess where they focus on is the "banchan" offerings--Korean side dishes. Every time I visit, more often than not the owners are out back, making banchan, rather than sitting at the front counter. I've been going back to try as many dishes they have as possible. Some have been decent, and some have been great. I haven't run into anything too bad. So far, everything they do with squid have been excellent. Owners/staff are nice and friendly. Like I said, they are usually in the back, making banchan, but when they're out, they're helpful. I've got a bottle of whole-napa kimchi in the fridge. I like my kimchi not too pickled, but the ol' lady likes them fully pickled. I tried a piece the other day and it was to my liking. I'll just have to ferment them a bit longer to see how it turns out.

I love this market! They have the best Kim Chi that I've been able to find. There are several types of banchan too. Lots of variety of rice and noodles.

This is such a hidden gem! The store may appear on the smaller and humble side, but you can find a great selection of Korean (and some Japanese) cooking ingredients, frozen food, snacks, drinks, sauces, condiments, etc. In addition, they also offer ready-made meals like Gimbap (looks like a sushi roll, but they are different), banchan (Korean side dishes), soups, meat, and even rice cake. The service is super friendly and they have pretty good prices. I really enjoy biking here to grab something in the summertime.

Great little place that makes high quality soondubu, yukgaejang, homemade kimchi, gimbap, Korean side dishes, and bibimbap. They also have a large assortment of snacks and tasty drink selection. Fresh food made daily. Fair prices. Very friendly owners eager to share and make suggestions.

Stopped in and bought a few things. We were greeted right when we walked in and staff was nice. While we were there she helped carry out some items for another customer - looked like a larger catering meal. There was lots of different products and a selection of fresh made soups, sauces, etc at the back!

I was in Southfield one day and craving for Korean food. Needed to eat something simple but Korean. So I looked for a place where I could buy kimpap. I have been to this place many years ago and was glad to see this place in business. Got a pack of kimpap. Should have bought two packs because it was yummy. Would definitely come back again.

Stopped by KAM on my way home from Southfield. Almost missed the place-it's kinda hidden and in the shopping center where Dunkin is located. The market reminded me of a tiny Korean market in Ridgecrest (desert in Cali) but was definitely bigger in size. Price was probably about the same as desert prices. Came specifically to buy eel, which they had in stock. Noticed at the back of the store they offered store made banchans, including bibimbap fixings. This market definitely has a good selection of Korean products. Definitely coming back!

This is my favorite Korean market. Mostly because it's a small owned shop by this friendly couple. I have been going here as long as I can remember. It's not the cleanest or most organized but they make great food for parties and I love their version of kimchi over all others. I will be sad if they do decide to retire next year or anytime in my lifetime. The husband wants to retire but the wife isn't ready to let it go. It will be a sad day for me when they do close and it will be impossible to find better kimchi than here. Worlds better than the kimchi they sell and buy from some vendor out of Chicago or wherever at HanMi or H Mart or at 168 Asia market. I will often order ahead chafing dishes of jap chae, Kim bap, man doo, duk Bokki or bulgogi for any parties I am invited to. I love coming early enough and getting the last few packets of Kim bap freshly made or coming in on the day they make the kimchi fresh every week, usually Tuesday of every week. This place feels like the local family store we all crave and want in life. Come and check it out and browse the shelves or ask the owners (The Kims) for some great recipe ideas, they are happy to help out and will help you find whatever you need for your desired Korean cuisines.
